Aflatoxins are naturally-occurring toxins that are produced by some species of fungi and are one of the most carcinogenic compounds produced in nature. Cannabis has the potential to harbour alfatoxin-producing fungi such as Aspergillus. Health Canada ACMPR requires that each batch of cannabis be tested for alfatoxins before being sold to patients.
Anandia Labs’ validated method for alfatoxin B1 is compliant with EP 2.8.18 (aflatoxin B1 2.0 ppb limit) and employs immunoaffinity column chromatography followed by UPLC-MS/MS analysis to quantify aflatoxin B1. In addition, we scan for total aflatoxins (B1, B2, G1, and G2).
